The Truth About Anabolic Steroid Side Effects

Ever since we were kids, we played games. And the fun thing about games is that they make you compete. Sometimes it’s about luck, but sometimes it’s about your ability.

For example, soccer, basketball, baseball, all of those depend on your athletic level and your knowledge of the game. Now, to be a professional, you have to prove that you are one of the best. But, to be the best, well, that’s a whole other story.

Nowadays, it’s trendy to give kids participation trophy’s, in the hopes that they feel better after a game. But, it’s in our nature to want to compete. It’s in our DNA. That’s why winning feels so good, and losing sucks. This is even more evident in the highest levels of sports. The difference between a winner and a loser is like night and day. And also, if you are in second place, that doesn’t make anyone feel better. That’s just the first person who lost, and everyone always remembers number one.

Now, there are a lot of factors that go into someone taking a performance-enhancing drug. The ones we mentioned above are just ones that we can see over and over again. The stakes at the highest level are so enormous that we can’t imagine how that feels for the people competing. It can take a psychological toll, and many people reach for an easier way to win in the form of anabolic steroids.

Some people think that others have a genetic advantage over them, and they take this supplement to even out the playing field. Either way, we understand what people do it. Still, for people who aren’t competing, there is a lot of misinformation out there.

What are steroids?

Most often, when someone mentions anabolics or steroids, we tend to think about huge bodybuilders. Either that or some athlete that has used them to boost their performance artificially. However, we all have steroids in our bodies. It’s a meager amount, but we need them in order to survive. They help us do our normal bodily functions, and they do different functions. Firstly, they were used in medicine to treat teens who couldn’t go through puberty. For example, if a boy is underdeveloped or having a low amount of testosterone, giving them a prescribed dose would help in healthy growth.

However, because so many people have abused them, we have a ton of misconceptions and biases towards these drugs. And of course, that has its own justifications. Most of the people who use steroids are men, and they do it to increase their muscle mass.

The positive side of anabolics is they work effortlessly. Even if you don’t work out, you will see results. But, if you work out as hard as they let you, your body will look like you put decades of work into it. You can get the shape of a professional athlete in a matter of weeks.

Of course, that comes at a cost. Playing with your hormones is extremely dangerous and can have a lot of potential health risks. The most common ones are high blood pressure, balding, acne, severe mood swings, and rage. For men, the list includes impotence and testicular shrinkage. These are just a few of many. Other ones include liver and urinary problems, edema, and heart disease.

Certainly, all those who plan on using them are well acquainted with the toll that they take on the human body. That’s why in professional sports, there is a lot of testing going on. In one sense, using these drugs is like giving you a superpower. You don’t get tired, your muscle recovery is abnormally fast, and you can get a lot of progress and results faster. That’s why professional athletes reach for them.

Professionals and steroids

For many athletes, winning is everything. They are extraordinary human beings who have devoted their lives to only one thing, and they want to be the best. However, any use of steroid substances has been banned in most professional sports. Injections, gels, and pills are all considered cheating.

Many of the benefits are tempting, but regulations and commissions are doing everything in their power to shut down performance-enhancing drugs.

However, with the correct training regime and nutrition, you can get close to the results from steroids without the horrible side effects. It wouldn’t be as fast or as easy, but it would be close. Since it’s very easy to abuse them, anyone who considers the option should first consult with a doctor. Constant misuse may lead to irreversible damage, and nobody would want that. You should know that the easy way is not the right way.
